I grew up in India, a daydreamer, consumed with music, stories and color. My daily life was saturated with the great vitality of an extended family and Hindu mythology in a post-colonial, pre-modern India. I emigrated to the US as a teenager and eventually became a lawyer. However, once I discovered oil paint and the printmaking press, I never looked back.
Painting and printmaking are, for me, an exploration of the mystery of living in our world and the low tech, physical and concrete nature of painting is exactly right. I use many beautiful and fantastic tools such as hand-made oil paints, charcoal from forests, pigments from around the world, and textile-like weighted papers that are milled by hand. I love to experiment with the techniques of Old Masters on linen and wood as well as on my monoprints and etchings. Inspiration comes at me from all directions and I remain infinitely spellbound by the experience of existing within nature!
