"In my practice I mix both painting in the studio and going on site to paint directly from life. I often seek out hilltop views where I can take in the landscape of San Francisco. One of my favorite places to go is Alta Plaza park - the park has a peaceful atmosphere offers stunning vistas of Pacific Heights, Hayes Valley, and beyond. After painting in the park on a bright, sunny day, this view looking southwest captured my eye. I recalled the colors and took a photo to make this painting in the studio. I was particularly drawn to the quality of the bright sunlight that day - it gleamed off the roofs of the old victorian houses, and the shadows of the houses reflected the luminous blue daylight."
