A Box Full of Darkness

30 October - 30 November 2019
It is our pleasure to invite you to the opening reception of our final group show of the year, "A Box Full of Darkness".
Join us on Saturday, November 2nd from 6-9pm to meet these talented Bay Area artists and savor some good company, fine local wines and delicacies and to celebrate the beauty to be found in darkness.
"A Box Full of Darkness" features seven fabulous Bay Area artists each freely exploring the idea of darkness while working in their own style and medium. Whether through the casting of deep shadows or the evocation of a form out of a darkened canvas, the one central theme of these beautifully dissimilar works is their absence of light and, thus, the artists' restrained or dramatic use of light itself. Besides the observation of darkness as the lack of light in these works, there is an obvious pull to explore darkness as metaphor for themes ranging from the sensual and mysterious to sadness or even death.
We are so thrilled to have such a passionate and accomplished group of artists for this show!
The Artists:
Kanna Aoki
Jessica Dalva

(In my sleep I dreamed this poem)
Someone I loved once gave me
a box full of darkness.
It took me years to understand
that this, too, was a gift.
